Questions & Answers

Is this an official port of the Java mod?

Yes! It is fully developed by BlayTheNinth, the original creator of the Waystones Java mod. Pathway Studios acts as a publisher.

Where can I find this Add-on?

The Add-on is available for purchase on the Minecraft Marketplace.

Differences to the Java Version

The Add-on tries to be as faithful to the original Java version as possible, however, due to technical differences and limitations between the Java and Bedrock Edition, some features had to be redesigned to work well as an Add-on.

  • Waystones do not require XP to teleport
  • Waystones will generate in villages, but not randomly in the wild
  • Waystones will visually show as activated as soon as at least one player has activated them
  • Waystones are shared with other players by default (use the Tome of Secrecy to opt out)
  • Warp Plates will teleport items and mobs only between the same dimension
  • Some newer Java version features have not yet been ported to Bedrock (see below)

When will newer features make it to Bedrock?

The publishing process for Bedrock Edition updates is very different to Java Edition mods:

  • New graphical assets must be commissioned from the Waystones for Bedrock artist
  • Updates go through several layers of 1st-party, 2nd-party and 3rd-party reviews
  • Any changes made are expected to be permanent as to not break older worlds

On Java Edition, worlds are generally not expected to cross Minecraft version boundaries, allowing me to release new features and experiment on a whim. However, the need for reviews, longevity and involvement of third parties on Bedrock Edition means I have to take a slower and more batched approach when it comes to publishing updates there.

Before new features make it to Bedrock, I would like them to be tested, tweaked and balanced in Java Edition before confirming them as stable and committing to them long-term.

Currently, the following new features have not yet been ported to Bedrock Edition:

Are waystones public to all players?

Yes, waystones are public by default. If you don't want to share your waystones, you can use the Tome of Secrecy to opt out.

I read the Tome of Secrecy, but others can still see my waystones

If others have used your waystone before, it will remain activated for them even if you read the Tome of Secrecy afterwards.

To ensure you are the only one with access to your waystones, you should break and place them back down after reading the Tome of Secrecy.

I can't find waystones in villages

Village waystones require a sufficient amount of empty, flat space near a path to generate, so it highly depends on the village's layout and surrounding terrain.

Is there a limit on how many waystones I can have?

There is no theoretical limit on the number of waystones you can have. In practice, there may be limits imposed by the game in terms of how much data can be stored, but we've tested with hundreds of waystones without any problems.

Why do items and mobs not teleport to other dimensions?

Unfortunately, due to dimensions being loaded differently when playing on a Realms server, items and mobs would disappear when teleporting cross-dimensionally.

To avoid issues stemming from those technical limitations, interdimensional travel has been limited to players only.

Do waystones require XP to teleport?

No, waystones on Bedrock Edition do not require XP to teleport. I've heard some feedback from players who preferred if they did, and it's something I'll keep in mind for when we next publish an update.
