Questions & Answers
Is this an official port of the Java mod?
Yes! It is fully developed by BlayTheNinth, the original creator of the Waystones Java mod. Pathway Studios acts as a publisher.
Where can I find this Add-on?
The Add-on is available for purchase on the Minecraft Marketplace.
It may take some time to show up in feeds, so you might have to search for "Waystones" to find it!
Differences to the Java Version
The Add-on tries to be as faithful to the original Java version as possible, however, due to technical differences and limitations between the Java and Bedrock Edition, some features had to be redesigned to work well as an Add-on.
- Waystones do not require XP to teleport
- Waystones will generate in villages, but not randomly in the wild
- Waystones will visually show as activated as soon as at least one player has activated them
- Waystones are shared with other players by default (use the Tome of Secrecy to opt out)
- Sharestones are attuned to minerals rather than colors
- This change was made for accessibility reasons and will eventually be applied to the Java version as well
- Portal Scrolls are exclusive to the Bedrock Edition
- This feature will eventually be ported to the Java version as well
- Warp Plates will teleport items and mobs only between the same dimension
Are waystones public to all players?
Yes, waystones are public by default. If you don't want to share your waystones, you can use the Tome of Secrecy to opt out.
I read the Tome of Secrecy, but others can still see my waystones
If others have used your waystone before, it will remain activated for them even if you read the Tome of Secrecy afterwards.
To ensure you are the only one with access to your waystones, you should break and place them back down after reading the Tome of Secrecy.
I can't find waystones in villages
Village waystones require a sufficient amount of empty, flat space near a path to generate, so it highly depends on the village's layout and surrounding terrain.
Is there a limit on how many waystones I can have?
There is no theoretical limit on the number of waystones you can have. In practice, there may be limits imposed by the game in terms of how much data can be stored, but we've tested with hundreds of waystones without any problems.
Why do items and mobs not teleport to other dimensions?
Unfortunately, due to dimensions being loaded differently when playing on a Realms server, items and mobs would disappear when teleporting cross-dimensionally.
To avoid issues stemming from those technical limitations, interdimensional travel has been limited to players only.
Do waystones require XP to teleport?
No, waystones on Bedrock Edition do not require XP to teleport. I've heard some feedback from players who preferred if they did, and it's something I'll keep in mind for when we next publish an update.
